  • Despite being an average photographer at best, I’m back on Flickr. I’ve uploaded a cache of photos I took on my walks in Melbourne’s CBD/Fitzroy/Collingwood/Carlton when I lived in 3065 in 2005-2006. My over-reliance on photoshop filters was like an early forerunner of Instagram. I look back on this with puzzlement. Did I not think my photos were legit without a weird filter over them? (I think this insecurity, not universal but sometimes deeply hidden, lies behind the spectacular uptake of Instagram.) But I also remember being completely in love with Melbourne then – maybe I was boosting them to show how spectacular the city looked in my eyes.
